North East construction sector encouraged to develop Carbon Champions through new Northumbria University course

Carbon Champions Course Construction

North East carbon emissions reporting consultancy, SmartCarbon, has partnered with Constructing Excellence North East to deliver a Carbon Champions course endorsed by Northumbria University and IEMA.

A new one-day course is set to be held on 28th March 2024 for the North East construction sector to help upskill industry professionals as the sector seeks to meet challenging targets for decarbonisation over the coming years.

The course, which is backed by Northumbria University and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), will be delivered by carbon emissions reporting consultancy, SmartCarbon in partnership with Constructing Excellence North East.

Aimed at those who will be responsible for carbon emissions reporting via the Decarbonising NEE Construction programme, the Carbon Champions course will feature a review of climate change impacts, approaches to carbon foot-printing and reporting in adherence with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, carbon management, energy management and carbon reduction.

Constructing Excellence North East is inviting firms in the region to sign up in order to help them deepen their knowledge of the climate emergency and better understand how progress in decarbonisation can be achieved through accurate reporting and planning. Ahead of the event, CENE CEO, Catriona Lingwood, says,

“As the organisation tasked with driving the change agenda in construction, housing and regeneration, we know that professional development courses like this one have a fundamental role to play in improving industry performance and creating a more sustainable built environment.

“In particular, carbon emissions are becoming central to all procurement processes moving forward and no part of the supply chain is exempt from the need to measure and report on emissions. This is a particular area of expertise for SmartCarbon so I can’t recommend this course enough to those organisations beginning to get to grips with carbon accounting.”

SmartCarbon Commercial Director, Lee Jackson, says,

“The Carbon Champions course is a great opportunity for those working in the construction sector to upskill and gather the foundational knowledge necessary to develop their understanding of where emissions are concentrated, implement meaningful carbon reduction plans and meet their evolving compliance requirements.”
