Building Confidence

How SmartCarbon Enhanced Carbon Reporting for Newcastle Hospitals

Newcastle Hospitals were early adopters of carbon reporting, even developing their own Excel-based method for footprinting. However, as GHG accounting best practices evolved, they sought to improve accuracy and align with current standards. With SmartCarbon’s support, they transitioned to a more reliable, GHG Protocol-compliant system, enhancing confidence in their reporting.

What We Did

SmartCarbon provided access to its healthcare emissions tracking platform, tailored to NHS Trusts and suppliers. We also provided consultancy support, including guidance on GHG Protocol alignment, helping to integrate the platform seamlessly.

BOOSTED CONFIDENCE

Newcastle Hospitals gained confidence in their ability to report accurately to stakeholders, including the Board, and experienced no pushback. Stakeholders understood it was an evolution and accuracy exercise.

“The Smart Carbon platform is a comprehensive tool that allows us to confidently measure and report our full ‘NHS carbon footprint plus’ across all scopes of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The team are leaders in the field and have helped us to directly engage with our supply chain to support each other with our shared goal of a decarbonised healthcare supply chain by 2040.”
